Long-Legged metallic fly resting on a piece of cedar in my garden. Quite a jumpy little bug, I'd compose a shot, and before I could hit the shutter he'd moved somewhere else!

Small black ant exploring a Pansy leaf. Surprisingly hard to get a good image because they generally don't stay still for very long. Shot taken with a Nikon D300, Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG Macro and an SB800 flash.

Honey Bee in Flight

This is my first BIF, believe me I've been trying to get a good shot like this for several weeks and all I can say is it's a frustrating process to say the least. Not only is it hard to predict when the bug is going to take off, but also which direction it's going to go. Luckily with the D300's high speed continuous shooting mode, life is made a little easier. This shot was taken using an SB800 as well so flash recycle time played a large factor in the number of keeper shots.

This very patient Dragonfly allowed me to try a few different angles before getting tired of my company. I like this image because you get a good view of the complex connective structure where the wings meet the body.

I almost deleted this image because my Nikon SB800 failed to fire properly. I like the darker feel though, and since it was taken at night under an outdoor light, it has a warmer tone to it.

Honey Bee feeding on a small flower. Shot taken with a Nikon D300 and a Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG Macro.

These guys are quite frustrating to photograph, they don't stay still very long, so quick focus is important.
